Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: The property is in an elevated position and enjoys wonderful views down the valley to the mountains beyond. It is well postioned to enable easy access to the main road (but does not suffer from noise from the road), and also local towns, supermarkets and petrol stations. The roads are generally quiet and well-maintained making driving easy and enjoyable. We did venture into Portugal where the roads were noticeably poorer. The main lounge/dining area and kitchen are open-plan making it light and airy, and comfortable to use. We particularly liked the galleried landing leading to the bedrooms on the first floor. The outside of the property is well-stocked with chairs, hammocks and recliners, enabling visitors to relax and enjoy the view or a good book. It is also possible to choose between direct sunshine or a more shady spot in which to relax. Although we did not get to meet our host, he did remain in contact via WhatsApp a couple of times during our stay to check that we were ok.
Negative: The most noticeable omission is any kind of sign at the gate to identify the property - we had to resort to following a local farmer on his moped so that he could lead us to the house. Although useful during the day and well-placed for a post-swim shower, the ground floor bathroom was annoying when one had to visit during the night. Personally, I found both bedrooms a little claustrophobic - this was due to a combination of the size, the sloping ceiling, and the lack of windows other than a skylight in each room. I also found the water in the swimming pool a little cold for my personal taste. There was also a bird-scarer which sounded like a shotgun being fired which went off every 90 seconds (day and night) in the valley below, but we did become more accustomed to this as the holiday progressed.
